Ride of the Red Dragon – The E-Bike Way!
In China, they say, "you can avoid an arrow coming from the front, but not the one coming from back". And China has been trying to avoid the same for years! China is world's largest producer of CO2 and other green house gases. It is choking its environment over its coal mines. But they do not call China "a communist nation" for nothing.
The Chinese government has started reducing their CO2 footprints, slowly but surely. For the start, they have drastically raised licensing fees on conventional vehicles. In turn they have started providing various incentives on eco-friendly zero-emission vehicles. As a result of which, the consumers are diverting their minds towards electric bikes. Last year, Chinese bought 21 million e-bikes against 9.4 million conventional vehicles. Currently, China has 2.5 million cars on road against four times as many e-bikes. There are two reasons why China has become the world's leading market for cheap, green vehicle: one, the government encouragement and two, the population is well versed in riding 2 wheelers to work. So, e-bikes suit them.
It is quite hard to imagine an executive, wearing a tuxedo, riding on e-bike to his multi-storey office building. But it is a fact in China! Now it's for the world to follow the suit.
