We started our discussion with Australia then we moved on to the various world countries and finally we discussed the United States of America. In this concluding article of the series, we are going to discuss the Capital of America; Washington! In the following article, we will discuss the various regulations that are in place to regulate the use of electric bikes.
The state of Washington defines an electric bicycle as ‘a bicycle with two or three wheels equipped with a seat, operable pedals for human propulsion and an electric motor’. The rated power output for the motor is limited to 1000 watts and the maximum speed limit is kept modest at 20 miles per hour. The minimum age for driving an electric bike is fixed at 16. And no driver’s license is required for driving the bike. But the rider must always wear a helmet while riding. The rider must comply with all the regulations and laws related to the use of electric bikes. Electric bikes can have access to state highways to the same extent as normal bicycles.
